The Unregenerate

Note: This summer, Pastor emeritus Bickel is highlighting various words, used in certain topical messages, with explanation and Scripture links.

The unregenerate soul lives in a riled state.
1 Corinthians 2:14 describes that soul's pathetic

condition which is incapable of grasping spiritual
realities. Unless God's Holy Spirit breaks forth
upon that individual soul, that unregenerate

soul will be forever darkened.

“The Unregenerate” - This Sunday's “summer snippet”

Short definition of “unregenerate:”

Not regenerated; not renewed in heart; remaining at enmity with God. Those who do not acknowledge the Triune God and have not experienced His saving power and grace upon their sinful lives. Those who live their lives in unbelief – not believing in the very Christ who died for their priceless souls.

The word, “unregenerate” won’t be found in the Old Testament Hebrew and Christian Scriptures. Nor will the word “Triune” [God] be found either. But, they are words of weighty significance which are highly descriptive. “Unregenerate” describes the utter sinful condition of a human being (soul) who is lost and helpless, - and who cannot approach the living and true [Triune] God to help save his lost and condemned position before a holy and just God.
Following are some Scriptures which help us to understand this [wretched] “unregenerate” condition, which describe those who haven’t experienced the Triune God’s saving grace in their very lives:

The Scriptures teach about the
woeful sinful condition of every
human being. Sinners, sin
because they were born that
way; and sinners, sin because of
daily personal choice.
Scriptures dealing with the [sinful] “depravity of man:”

Genesis 6:5 - “And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.” – KJV

Psalm 51:5 - “Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.” – KJV

Romans 5:12 “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:…..” – KJV

Matthew 15:16-20 - So Jesus said, “Are you also still without understanding? Do you not yet understand that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and is eliminated? But those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and they defile a man. For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies. These are the things which defile a man, but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile a man.” – NKJV

Romans 8:6-8 - “For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.”

Matthew 7:17- “Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.”

This Week’s Related Scriptures -- Intended to be utilized in a simple worship format:

Old Testament Hebrew Scriptures:

Psalm 25:1-22 – Especially verse Psalm 25:4-5 and Psalm 25:8-9. The “Lord” is not called “Lord” for nothing. He is the initiating force and factor in the life of a child of God.

New Testament Christian Scriptures:

John 3:1-21 – Christ must illuminate the needy and sinful human soul. In the Greek language, the phrase in verse 3 is: being born “from above.” This correlates with John 1:12-13. Even though a sinner is commanded to repent and believe, that process initiates from the good and gracious action of a loving Triune God.

Of Whom Does the Prophet Speak" -- by Victor Buksbazen -- an in-depth view of Isaiah 53:1-12 and the prophecy of Christ, hundred of years before his birth. Isaiah 53:1-12 underscores the truthfulness of Divine Revelation as exemplified in the Hebrew and Christian Scriptures.
